For those of you who will be doing your first race, look towards finishing the race and setting a pace that will get you there. This will allow you to gauge your performance and start to learn how hard you can push yourself. You can always go faster next race, but finishing the race will be more important and more rewarding than trying to compete with the riders up front and running out of steam before the end.
For returning riders, the prologue race offers a good opportunity to stretch your racing legs and get back into racing without too much pressure. Everyone is awarded the same points value for showing up, so you can go out and gauge your current fitness level and/or the fitness level of your competition without worrying about how your result will impact your season standing.
Above all, have fun. See you next week.
Neil
